It seems like every other day there’s a new buzzword that someone invents about cyber-crime. This time it’s “smishing” – a mixture of phishing and SMS (texting).
Instead of emailing dodgy links, the scammers send texts with messages that say something like this:
“Thanks for signing up to our new app. Your payment of £5 will come out of your account. Or to cancel, just click this link”.
It relies on unsuspecting victims panicking that they’ve accidentally signed up for something they don’t want. So they tap the link.
Bad move. Like phishing, tapping on the link gives the hackers access to all sorts of personal and important information.
There are a number of ways to protect you and your team from this kind of cyber crime, just let us know if you’d like some help.
