Birmingham based interior design specialists, Edward Thomas Interiors create beautiful spaces for house builders throughout the UK including Crest Nicholson, William Davis Homes and McCarthy & Stone. The team pride themselves on their exceptional service and creating show homes that people can imagine themselves living in, along with marketing suites, retirement living spaces and more. 

  The Problem

Initially, a staff member with a small amount of tech knowledge was looking after the IT system, but after rapid growth, to over 20 team members it became clear they needed more specialist IT help. Issues were taking a while to get fixed or not get fixed at all. There were quite a lot of niggles that was causing the team to miss their project deadlines which was causing a lot of frustration. There was no centralised location for data, some were stored on the server, some on individual machines it was becoming more and more difficult to manage. Edward Thomas Interiors also knew they didn’t have the appropriate security measures in place and their IT needed to be secure, especially with the sensitive client information they held.  

Being a 100% Apple environment, they needed to find a local IT support company who would be able to take full control of their technology including supporting their team with issues but to also help them move forward with their growing technology needs. Following a search for local IT companies, they contacted Compex IT to assess the current infrastructure and suggest ways to make things more efficient and secure.  

  The Compex IT Solution

Compex IT attended the office to gain a clear understanding of how the team operates and what they needed from an IT system. Following a comprehensive review of the current set-up, they implemented a faster, more efficient way to access their data from wherever they were. Designers were able to access their InDesign files from home, vastly improving the team’s productivity – they no longer had to be in the office to make those little finishing touches. Security was heavily increased, email security improved and their network made more robust as well as advising on how the company should store and share data in compliance with the GDPR giving them peace of mind.  

The wireless network was also replaced with a more stable solution, enabling the warehouse to communicate more effectively with members of the design team.  

All of the team’s computer issues and niggles that had been a source of frustration were ironed out during the onboarding process. Compex IT now provide full IT support, cybersecurity services, consultancy and website maintenance looking after the whole team and ensuring the systems have the right level of protection at all times.
